Semester Review

Manager of the Editing and Reporting Group

This entire course was a challenge.  In many ways it was self motivation for all the students.  In other ways it was the most challenging leadership role I have encountered.  I have been in many leadership positions before, but this one really opened my eyes to the fact that group projects are difficult to maneuver in for several different reasons: strengths and weaknesses of the members, members performing their duties, deadlines, and moral.

It was interesting to see the development of the class.  At first I viewed many members who could not live up to the group expectations that this course required.  I was proven wrong quite quickly.  In the middle towards the end of the semester, I saw the wonderful development of all group members and classmates.  It was a beautiful thing to see everybody step up to the plate.

Deadlines were always a difficult thing for all students.  We rarely made any of the dates.  This hurt us in the end.  We were not able to completely finish the final report due to the fact that we pushed back so many deadlines.  Personally, I did not feel like I presented a complete report to our client.  It may be because I am a perfectionist, but I fully believe in being satisfied in the type of work I present to people.  It is a reflection of my integrity.  That is how I approach every project.  It is my integrity on the line, therefore I will take a very personal interest in whatever is assigned to me.  I will not allow my integrity to be degraded.

Moral was a problem in this project.  It got to such an all time low three weeks before the end of the semester, I sent out an email to all the members of the class telling them that they could get through it.  All the managers banded together to keep our team’s morals up.  We needed to do this in order to ensue the success of the class project.  After the email, the moral went up in the class, just enough to allow the class to finish their work and their aspects of the project.

Most of my own work revolved around behind the scene type managerial work.  I do not have many documents to show of my work, but that is reflected in the documents and wordpresses of my teammates.  They are my testament that I was an effective leader and one that accomplished much in this project.  That in itself is what I believe makes a strong leader.  The respect earned, showed, and produced within the people underneath me is enough for me to say that I did a good job.

Progress Report (10-25)

Filed under: Uncategorized — amasaki @ 3:16 pm

rolling along.  That is really the best way i can describe things.  I am really proud of my team.  I got sick this past week and Lucas stepped up to the plate and took over for me.  Now he and I are working together, as a collaboration, to finish getting this test plan off the ground.  We are so close to getting things done.  The other part of the group is working on finishing an evaluation inventory of the IRB website.  This will be added to the Test Plan.  We are currently finishing up some compilation and formatting issues.  Afew more things need to be written but overall, this test plan is really running along.

Progress Report (10-16)

We are finishing up the Test Plan.  There are afew things that still are being finalized: scenerios and tasks.  I have my team working on revising and editing right now.  I need to add the logo on the report as well.  It looks very nice now.  I’m excited.  I also went through and edited the Post Test Questionaire that Zach sent me.  I sent it back to him, and he is supposed to finish up the revisions and send it to me one more time.  That is fairly finished.

Testing is supposed to be starting up fairly soon.  Once that is done all the raw data will start flowing in.  Its going to be very interesting once that starts happening.  Getting this test plan together was stressful and a headache in itself…oh i can’t wait until the actual report is underway!  *sighs*

We are getting through it alive, that’s for sure!

Progress Report (10-4)

Filed under: Uncategorized — amasaki @ 3:36 pm

In class today we are currently trying to finish up the Test Plan.  It seems to me that there is alot of confusion on what each group is specifically supposed to do.  SM group is having trouble sending me the user profiles and then writing up the correct information for the Test Plan Report.  The Testing group is pretty on top of things, they just didn’t have all of the information written.  Compiling seems to be a problem.  I’m proud of several of my group memebers.  They have really stepped up to the plate.  I’ve not been feeling too hot this week, and its been difficult getting my work done.  Because of that, Lucas and Stephen have been really helping me out.  Matt has been working on the logo with me quite closely.  I just need to sit down and work on the publishing and naming standards.  Everybody has been working on template files for the flow of information we will be getting soon.

Currently we are continuously working on template files and defining publication standards, as well as the logo.  The next phase of the Test Plan is due next Tuesday.  Everybody seems to be on task.

Progress Report (9-20)

Its been a slow start, in my opinion. My group has been needing a kick in the rear to get moving. We’ve been working on task lists and small homework assignments.

Last night, i took notes on my assigned portion of the sample User Testing project. My plan is to go over them in class and start working on the actual project.

Currently we are working on group task lists; making them more detailed oriented. We also need to start working on the project components themselves. I’m proud of my group, today is the first day that everybody in the group actually showed up to class. Lets see if they actually have done the homework assigned!
